There is a new hype starting in the US; the Stroopwafel McFlurry is offered ‘from Holland with Love’, as part of McDonald’s Internations menu. The Stroopwafel McFlurry is a sweet, creamy treat from the Netherlands, blends vanilla soft serve with a rich caramel swirl and Daelman’s Stroopwafel crispy caramel waffle cookie pieces. The Stroopwafel went mainstream a couple of years ago – United Airlines has been serving it onboard and stroopwafels are available at US grocery stores.
This inspired me to offer you a homemade recipe for this Dutch delight. Either the stroopwafel vanilla ice cream sandwich or ice cream served in a glas with caramel swirl and crumbled stroopwafel pieces. This is topped with whipped cream and decoration of choice.
ICE CREAM STROOPWAFEL SANDWICH- Recipe for 4 persons
INGREDIENTS
12 stroopwafels
16 scoops of bourbon vanilla ice cream
Caramel syrup
Whipped cream
Sprinkles red and white
METHOD
You can buy prepackaged stroopwafels at major supermarket . I use Daelman’s stroopwafels, available at major super markets. I get them World Cost Plus or Trader Joe’s. They also carry the caramel bites – mini stroopwafels.
Get bourbon vanilla ice cream and put 1 large or 2 small scoops of ice-cream on top of the first stroopwafel. Pour some caramel syrup on top. Cover it with a second stroopwafel and repeat the proces. Cover it with a third stroopwafel. Finish with whipped cream on top. Decorate with colored sprinkles.
ICE CREAM STROOPWAFEL IN A GLAS – Recipe for 4 persons
INGREDIENTS
3 stroopwafels
16 scoops of bourbon vanilla ice cream
Caramel syrup
Whipped cream
Sprinkles red and white
METHOD
Cut up 2 stroopwafels into small pieces and 1 stroop wafel in quarters – set aside.
Use a small glass and put in a small scoop of vanilla ice cream. Add some stroopwafel pieces and a bit of caramel syrup. Add another small scoop of vanilla and repeat with stroopwafel bits and syrup. Last scoop of ice cream and stroopwafel bits and syrup. Top off with whipped cream and decorate with sprinkles and a quarter stroopwafel.
Now repeat after me: STROPE (like scope) WAA-FEL.
