Yesterday was the 3rd Thursday of November, a traditional American Holiday and for many an excuse to stuff more than just their turkey. Pretty tables completely decked out with all the traditional dishes. I rubbed my belly in contentment, what looked like a ‘food baby’ at the end of the day. Of course I did not only say thanks after every bite of yummyness, but also for the many blessings in my life. Although I realize that every day, it’s extra special to say thanks while sharing good food with family and friends.
This year I managed to not get into a ‘food coma’ – Turkey contains Tryptophan, a sleep inducing chemical. So I kept it to one serving of each course and stayed alert. That’s headline news people!
We had two engagements to go to. First we went to Travis and Judy’s (our Southern Belle) in the afternoon. Like last years it was a true feast meal. Alice brought her famous and heavenly Pumpkin Pie and Judy made her sweet Southern Pecan Pie – for a true sugar shot! After our dinner we watched the movie Brave in 3D. OK, I was nudged to open my eyes… only once!
Then we went on to our 2nd gathering at Nikki’s American Craftman’s House of Potluck. All the guests brought something to eat and drink. We had 2 Turkeys, 2 Whisky Hams some other meat and poultry dishes, vegetables and other traditional side dishes and dessert galore.
The Christmas season has begun, and some have gotten up as early as 5am on this ‘Black Friday’ morning to shop for the best deals. Not me. I worked off some of that stuffing during an early morning stroll in a foggy LA. What’s for breakfast…?
